You are receiving this newsletter because you have subscribed via www.altenergyinvestor.org.

The aim of this newsletter is to complement the news-based website, with a primary focus on price-based information over the previous period and to advise of forthcoming company announcements (see bottom) and IPOs.

Winners and losers: 27th May - 27th June 2008

THE WINNERS

1. Hydrogenics Corp +68.18%

Last week, Hydrogenics spiked sharply upwards provoking great interest amongst highly technically minded traders. On the news front, one can point to the announcement on June 26th, that the firm had made a sale to Shell of an integrated hydrogen generation system - basically a fuelling station - and could be the first of many to appear in California. Governor Schwarzenegger wants 200 across the state of California before he retires.

2. Ersol Solar Energy +65.17%

One of Germany's biggest - if not the world's - white goods manufacturers, Bosch, made a bid in early June for a controlling stake Ersol Solar at a 63% premium to the share price. They succeeded. This has led to some speculation that other solar companies may soon be lined up for similar deals.

3. Econergy International +44.00%

Another bid story ! On June 13th, Suze Energy South America, made a cash offer for Econergy, a better price than Trading Emissions were prepared to offer before they pulled out. The back story to this has to be rising price of carbon and the approach of a new American President, McCain or Obama, who is more favourable to carbon trading.

4. Australian Biodiesel Group +40.00%

After being in the doldrums for some time, a combination of a high oil price and crucially, an explosion at the Apache Varanus Island gas plant, are making alternative fuel producers attractive again in Australia. This has helped Australian Renewable Fuels as well.

5. SAG Solarstrom +37.42%

On 20th June, SAG Solarstrom was upgraded from hold to add by analysts at First Berlin. They favoured the appointment of the new CEO and the results of the restructuring efforts.

THE LOSERS

1. Tanfield Group -53.85%

Tanfield has been hammered, and continues to be so, after the company reported a sharp drop in global demand for aerial platforms and production problems with its electrical vehicles. It gets worse because now the London Stock Exchange's regulatory team is investigating allegedly poor standards of disclosure and weak financial controls.

2. Pacific Ethanol -51.46%

A combination of Bill Gates selling a chunk of his stockholding, record floods in America's midwest raising the feedstock price of corn and even president candidate, John McCain in typical straight talk style, saying the federal government should end ethanol subsidies, amount to a tough month for Pacific Ethanol.

3. Applied Intellectual Capital -50.80%

On 18th June, AIC said its RedOx Biofuels unit and Mitsubishi Corp signed a memorandum of understanding to commercialize a process to convert non-food feedstocks into ethanol. On 23rd June, AIC announced the successful testing of a prototype auto battery which could deliver more than 3,600 watt hours per kilo. However, we are in a bear market, and according to the MFFAIS meanwhile (Mutual Fund Facts About Individual Stocks) a site I've only just come across and cannot vouch for, there has been some selling.

4. Medis Technologies -45.97%

On June 20th, Medis announced that it had entered into definitive agreements to sell securities to selected institutional investors for aggregate gross proceeds of $29m. The offering closed on June 24th and it looks like they didn't get a very good price.

5. Nova Biosource Fuels -44.83%

NBF revealed on June 10th, a narrower net loss for Q2 compared to a year ago of $6.4m compared to $6.7m in 2007. The issue for the company appears to be running the Seneca, Clinton County and Scott facilities at full capacity, for which they require additional financing of $10m for the Seneca refinery alone.
